4/30 Blog #5: Frustrations

Image
Hi everyone! Welcome back to my blog. Today, I'm going to talk about my painting experience this week. It was kind of a rough week for me, but after I watched some Bob Ross and listened to some Taylor Swift I was feeling good about myself. Lots happened this week so be prepared for a fairly hefty blog post. Don't worry I'll try to keep it as light and entertaining as possible, so stay with me here. Unfortunately, we're not going to start with Bob Ross. I know, I'm sorry. We're starting with Mr. Will Kemp and some light and shading techniques. I learned how to paint a more depth and 3-D-like painting by using light, one light source more specifically. He taught me about the 3 parts of the object (light side, dark side, and cast shadow). You need to create a shadow line in the object, which is the line of transition between the light and dark sides. This is a lot more difficult than how it seems. You have to keep the two sides very different while maintaining a so...

4/23 Blog #4: Who'da Thought?

Hi everyone! Welcome back to my blog. In this blog post, I will be talking about my painting this week and how my previous opinions on certain topics have changed. I'm super excited to talk about this album because it's one that I was recommended by a friend! Let's dive in. This week's episode of "The Joy of Painting" wasn't as informative as the previous two. I did get to see 4 baby squirrels, and it was pretty darn adorable. The main thing I learned was to just have a soft touch when painting. A heavy stroke could potentially ruin your painting. Maybe not ruin, but make things very difficult for you. Just gotta float like a butterfly, I guess. Anyways, here is the masterpiece called "Winter in Pastel":  What a beauty! Those mountain ridges were created by his soft touch, and a heavy touch would make it look, well not like mountains. After watching greatness unfold (yes, I mean Bob Ross), I painted the album "Fine Line", by Harry Style...

4/16 Blog #3: Change of Plans

Image
Hi everyone! Welcome back to my blog. I'm excited to discuss with you guys the hardships of this week and my painting process. This week was a pretty busy one for me, and it caused me to have to adjust my scheduling and change my plans for this week. After initially planning on painting two albums, I decided to only paint one. This decision was caused by my poor time management and my underestimating of the difficulty of this album cover. Without further ado, let's dive in. Time for what you all came for (or at least what I would come for): Mr. Bob Ross. I wasn't able to apply the main lessons from this episode to my painting this week, but I still feel the need to brighten your day with his brilliance. I watched Season 20 Episode 2 of "The Joy of Painting" and I was blown away.  You see the cabin, right? That was all improvised. He painted the background and the trees and was just like, you know what? I think a cabin would look good...right here . He just painted...

4/9 Blog #2: Happy Accidents

Hi, everyone! Welcome back to my blog. Now, this past week I painted my first album cover ( gasp!).  Super exciting, right? That being said, let's dive right into the good stuff. I started this week watching some beginner's tutorials regarding acrylic paints, canvases, brushes, etc. I practiced a little on some canvas paper. I will leave the links to the tutorials I used at the end of this blog post if you're interested in beginning painting yourself. I found these tutorials very helpful considering I didn't have a great idea of when to use each brush and how to stroke/use them. Practice, Shmactice, right? Now, let's talk about what everyone wants to hear: BOB ROSS! I watched some of "The Joy of Painting" this week, and that man just relaxes me and puts me at ease. Therapist? Pshh, I got Bob Ross. I watched Season 20, Episode 1: "Mystic Mountains", and his artwork is pretty darn good. Just look at this. What...How...Like...What!? Once you're ...
