6/4 Reflection Blog Post

Before I dive into any deep reflections, I want to let you guys know how my TED Talk went. Well, it's hard to tell considering I was virtual and didn't get any live responses from anybody. I got good feedback from a couple people, but that is not the same as live reactions to parts that you wanted to evoke a reaction. I also wish I could say that I had a fun time making the TED Talk, but I'd be lying if I did. I procrastinated, and that made it pretty miserable for me. Alright, now that y'all are updated, we can dive into the reflection. I have mixed feelings about this project. Not about the project in general, more just about my topic and work ethic. The project itself was great. It allowed students to have the autonomy to explore something of their choice and to develop a strong work ethic and time management. The bad part is that I am kind of unhappy with my choice and inability to have good time management. My topic, painting album covers, was time-consuming. Serio...

6/1 TED Talk

TED TALK LINK BELOW**** https://prezi.com/v/nu0fpewefgao/ SCRIPT                I am not an artist. For as long as I can remember, I never once associated myself with being good at art. I was just never blessed with the gift of an artistic mind. To give you guys an idea of my artistic ability, here are three pieces from the past Yeah, was I a prodigy or what? So despite being pretty unartistic, I felt the most creative during elementary school. I remember drawing and writing my own stories a lot during these years. After elementary school, though, I felt myself becoming less creative and not as willing to free write and draw. This was because I didn’t have a class that was dedicated to art, until the Genius project When I had a project/class dedicated to painting, I was able to become more creative. I found myself doing a lot of sketching, and looking at things, and wondering how I could potentially paint them.    I was living...

5/21 Blog #8: The Last Painting

Image
Hi everyone! Welcome back to my blog. Since the project is almost over, this week will be my last painting. If you saw last week's post, then yes, I will end the project with "Flower Boy" by Tyler, the Creator. Revisit last week's blog post to see where I got to. If you read last week's post, you would know that I planned on painting two albums over last week, this week, and next week. I may or may not have forgotten about the actual TED Talk, so I had to scrap that plan. I chose only to finish "Flower Boy". Just for reference, here is the album and my progress so far: For this week, I had to paint Tyler, more flowers, hills in the grass, bees, and clouds. I was very excited to continue painting because I thought I started off pretty darn well. I'm not gonna waste anymore of your time, so here's the last painting: Honestly, I was a little underwhelmed with my final product. I was expecting more out of myself, but it is what it is. I think my bigg...

5/14 Blog #7: The Beginning of the End

Image
Hi everyone! Welcome back to my blog. Based on this week's title, yes, unfortunately, we are nearing the end of this journey. We have about a couple weeks until the TEDTalk, and the project will be over soon. I've got 2 more albums I plan on painting to finish this incredible learning experience. This week, I will be discussing my painting process for "Flower Boy" by Tyler, the Creator. First, though, we are bringing back our Bob Ross section. It was a sad week last week without watching an episode of his TV show. This episode was called "Divine Elegance". How could I possibly miss out on this episode with a title like that? I was expecting some great things, and I wasn't disappointed. Divine elegance, indeed. I didn't learn any specific techniques or skills in this episode, but I did find the relaxation I needed. It allowed me to make painting the stress reliever it should be. After starting my week with Bob Ross, I was ready to start painting my al...

5/7 Blog #6: Genius

Image
Hi everyone! Welcome back to my blog. Today, I will be talking about my painting experience this week, which was probably the best week I've had so far. I took this week just to practice painting, so I didn't watch any videos or focus on any styles/techniques. Unfortunately, this means there will be no Bob Ross section this week😢. I get it if you stop reading the blog at this point because he is the highlight of my blog. I suggest you stay because I had a good week, and I'm excited to share what happened! Based off of my blog title, you'd assume I was the genius, right? Yea, no. I'm no genius at painting. I'm getting better, but I am still a beginner, I'd say. So who is this "genius" and why did I name my blog this? Well, it's Kanye West. Whatever notions you may have of him, throw them all away because he is an absolute musical genius. His beats, samples, lyrics, and production are honestly unmatched. I listen to a decent amount of Kanye, but...

4/30 Blog #5: Frustrations

Image
Hi everyone! Welcome back to my blog. Today, I'm going to talk about my painting experience this week. It was kind of a rough week for me, but after I watched some Bob Ross and listened to some Taylor Swift I was feeling good about myself. Lots happened this week so be prepared for a fairly hefty blog post. Don't worry I'll try to keep it as light and entertaining as possible, so stay with me here. Unfortunately, we're not going to start with Bob Ross. I know, I'm sorry. We're starting with Mr. Will Kemp and some light and shading techniques. I learned how to paint a more depth and 3-D-like painting by using light, one light source more specifically. He taught me about the 3 parts of the object (light side, dark side, and cast shadow). You need to create a shadow line in the object, which is the line of transition between the light and dark sides. This is a lot more difficult than how it seems. You have to keep the two sides very different while maintaining a so...
