5/14 Blog #7: The Beginning of the End

Hi everyone! Welcome back to my blog. Based on this week's title, yes, unfortunately, we are nearing the end of this journey. We have about a couple weeks until the TEDTalk, and the project will be over soon. I've got 2 more albums I plan on painting to finish this incredible learning experience. This week, I will be discussing my painting process for "Flower Boy" by Tyler, the Creator.

First, though, we are bringing back our Bob Ross section. It was a sad week last week without watching an episode of his TV show. This episode was called "Divine Elegance". How could I possibly miss out on this episode with a title like that? I was expecting some great things, and I wasn't disappointed.

Divine elegance, indeed. I didn't learn any specific techniques or skills in this episode, but I did find the relaxation I needed. It allowed me to make painting the stress reliever it should be. After starting my week with Bob Ross, I was ready to start painting my album.

I had first listened to "Flower Boy" 2-3 years ago when it first dropped. I've been meaning to revisit it for some time now, so I was very happy when Mia recommended it to me. Tyler, the Creator is probably the most interesting and different rapper/artist out there. I really don't know how else to describe him. Unorthodox is maybe another word to describe him. Anyways, I enjoy listening to his music, but I don't think I completely listened to this album when it dropped. I don't remember liking the album as much as I do now. It's got some great beats, lyrics, features, and production. I definitely recommend this album. My favorite songs are probably "Boredom", "November", "See You Again", and "Where This Flower Blooms". Alright, now here's the album cover:

I think it's a pretty darn cool album cover, and I was excited to start painting it. I first started with the orange sky. I've definitely gotten better at blending because blending the background took me a significantly less amount of time to do. It took me very few tries to get it right, and I was happy with how it turned out.

Pretty accurate, eh? I was really happy with this because it looked good and the colors are just beautiful. Maybe I am becoming a genius at painting. We're definitely getting there. Not like I'm almost at genius-level but just general improvement. The next step was to paint the grass and flowers. This part was actually pretty relaxing. I was just painting a nice, beautiful field of sunflowers. I roughly followed the album. I didn't get to finish all of the flowers, but here's how far I got to:

I hate my paint. It's so thin, and it just shows the green underneath. I don't want to paint multiple coats, but I might have to. We shall see. A good thing about this part was the freedom. This whole project, I've tried my best to stick to exactly how the album looks. For the flowers, I kept the big ones where they're supposed to be, but I painted the little flowers however I pleased. It felt nice to have a little control and originality to my painting. Who knows, maybe I'll make an alternate cover during the summer. Anyways, I think I'm off to a great start, and I'm excited to finish it up because I've got a feeling it's going to look great.

I did plan on finishing the album by this blog post, but this album is "expert" level, so I'm fine with taking a little more than a week on it. I didn't want to present you guys with a poorly done album cover when I could produce a great one. I'm sure you guys agree with my decision.

Well, that's all I got for this week! Make sure you tune into next week's blog post because you gotta see the finished product. I'm also starting my final album which is pretty crazy. You guys aren't ready. I'm super excited, and I hope you are, too. Thanks for staying with me, and I'll catch you later!
